New Disqus Comments plugin
In a nutshell I want people to be able to leave comments without me having to "approve" them - they appear immediately. But I also want to keep out spam. The anti-spam module for some reason was marking all comments - including my own - as spam. I have since added the Disqus plugin which hopefully will allow anyone with a free Disqus account to be able to leave comments that appear immediately. So far it appears to be working nicely.-

"Is Hell Real?" and the multivalence of metaphors
I rather enjoyed the following from Fr Stpehen Freeman at “Glory to God for All Things“: Is Hell Real? Which includes the following: For those who love God, His fire is light and life, purification and all good things. For … Continue reading

When foreigners know our language better than we do
One of the delightful things about my work is to hear people who (a) English is not their first language and/or (b) have little to no religious background show that sometimes they understand (a2) our language or (b2) the Christian … Continue reading
All we like house flippers gone astray
My youngest daughter who is approaching 12 is into interior design. Yeah sure she enjoys “Hanna Montana” (who doesn’t? especially when the in-laws are from northeast Tennessee?) and “High School Musical XIII” and all that. But she also likes to … Continue reading

Against Obamessianism, part III
Obama talks a great game but his track record does not match the disingenuousness of his rhetoric. He is not a centrist. He does not unite. He says whatever is necessary to get people to swoon for him. He is … Continue reading

Against Obamessianism, part II
Charles Krauthammer – another one of my favorite political commentators – has critiqued the speech Barack Obama gave on race and religion that so many have hailed as “brilliant”. Krauthammer calls it a fraud. But that is not the question. … Continue reading

Against Obamessianism, part I
I know, I know. Since when does Rick care so much about (presidential) politics? You came here for the personal news and theological writings right? I am going to start posting occasionally on the presidential election campaign. For years I … Continue reading

Speaking of – "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed"
This morning was the first I heard of this movie by Ben Stein. Visited the website and browsed around. I am ambivalent about its intent and content. From what I can gather the film may be confusing various issues which … Continue reading
