Comment Moderation
I want people to be able to post comments that appear immediately without having to be approved. But I also want to keep out spam and the anti-spam features interfere with the comment system. For some reason all comments - including mine! - go straight to a spam list. Then I must mark them as "not spam". Then they must be "approved". That is not how this website is supposed to work and I apologize for the inconvenience.-

Charles Krauthammer – "McCain's Oil Epiphany"
Funny how the Washington Post labels the column. Anyways – once again I feel soiled bringing politics (especially presidential politics) onto this website. But those few who read know that I am passionate about the environment and energy conservation. In … Continue reading

My Theology (of Mission) statement
I first wrote this for Introduction to Christian Mission taught by Dr Isam Ballenger at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. Since then I have tweaked it only a little. It basically is a good one page summary of my theology. … Continue reading

Patriarchs, primacy, and the pope
About a year ago I was having a rather good lunch with some Episcopal clergy buds when the conversation turned to the relationship between Anglicanism and Orthodoxy. One of these fine priests mentioned how apparently Pope Benedict XVI without much … Continue reading

Dune and Rhetorical despotism
I have been rereading later books in the Dune saga by Frank Herbert. In God Emperor of Dune I came across this exchange between the God Emperor Leto II and his majordomo Moneo: “Religion always leads to rhetorical despotism,” Leto … Continue reading

Climing the ladder of pretension
Woo hoo! We graduated! Wait – does a website want to be easier or more difficult to read? Why assume that the more difficult to read the more intelligent it must be? In my car I have been listening to … Continue reading

Lousiana Science (mis-)Education Act passes
Well – they did it. SB733 passes 94-3. Now it goes to the Louisiana state Senate to consider an amendment. Backers contend that the proposal would give science teachers more freedom to hold freewheeling classroom discussions, including arguments that challenge … Continue reading
Misrepresenting History in order to Manipulate the Masses (or) Studies in Propoganda, Part II
I will not herein reproduce the brilliant analysis of the Anglican Curmudgeon. The Lambeth Conference is fast approaching – the every-ten-years gathering of Anglican bishops from all over the world in Great Britain. Many conservative Anglicans are – excuse me … Continue reading

Letter to the Editor – Why Public Schools (Do Not) Need Religion
Here we go again. I hate it when Christians sound like fools in public. To the editor, Baton Rouge Advocate: Wright’s First Rule of Rhetoric states, When people are in error they will not only contradict but even refute themselves. … Continue reading

You Can Spy(?) on Me If You Want
I debated whether to post this. The first Sunday of every month Church of the Nations has a fellowship lunch after Sunday morning worship. So there we are last month all eating and talking away when someone says “Rick – … Continue reading

Where I Stand Politically
I am not… entirely… surprised. Political compass – Take the Test Economic left/right: 0.00 Social libertarian/authoritarian: -1.28 For the record I found the test rather flawed – many of the “questions” struck me as just bizarre, were hard to understand, … Continue reading
