New Disqus Comments plugin
In a nutshell I want people to be able to leave comments without me having to "approve" them - they appear immediately. But I also want to keep out spam. The anti-spam module for some reason was marking all comments - including my own - as spam. I have since added the Disqus plugin which hopefully will allow anyone with a free Disqus account to be able to leave comments that appear immediately. So far it appears to be working nicely.-

Charles Krauthammer – yes healthcare reform but not *this* way
I have before addressed the contemptible lie that conservatives (and Republicans – the two overlap but are not always the same) are against healthcare reform because they support the “status quo”. Conservatives do support healthcare reform. We like the idea … Continue reading

"Avatar" and other movies that make you throw up(?)
I have my reasons for not liking James Cameron. But the concept of and trailers for the new “Avatar” movie did get my interest. However came across an early anonymous review (caveat lector – how reliable is this?) which included … Continue reading

Society for Biblical Literature meeting – day 3
Been strange but good this year. Enjoyed the time with my friend Chris Brady and chance to meet some of his friends and colleagues and fellow bibliobloggers. Lunch at Bacco’s was excellent and only $15. Dinner at Ralph and Kacoo’s … Continue reading

We're gonna party like it's 536 B.C.E. – Society for Biblical Literature meeting
The Society for Biblical Literature annual meeting is coming to town! Since graduate school I have attended nearly every meeting of this large national and even international organization for biblical scholars. The last two years I have missed partly because … Continue reading
The anti-poverty forum – spoken insights and the unspoken question
Back in March of this year several members of University Baptist Church attended a Poverty Forum held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and sponsored by the Interfaith Federation of Baton Rouge. I was not planning to attend until someone pressured … Continue reading

Hillbuzz – "Thank you President and Mrs Bush"
**I have no photo to post or link of George and Laura Bush visiting the families at Fort Hood – because they did not want press coverage. Think about that.*** First – although I voted for President Bush toward the … Continue reading

Why have *you* not been to a Met Live (opera) broadcast?
We were blown away. So much that we forgot completely that we had missed the first half hour. When I looked up the time for the live broadcast of “Turandot” by the Metropolitan Opera it said “1:00 p.m.” So I … Continue reading
"V" is (not really) about Obama administration
This will be a short post. The script for “V” was written during the Bush administration. So those who think it is about the Obama administration are mistaken. That includes those who think “yeah! sock it to them!” and those … Continue reading

The president is a totalitarian space lizard here to eat us?
Sorry about not posting more. Been super busy since the senior pastor of the American church resigned. Don’t get me wrong – in a way I am enjoying my work more than usual. Very similar to what we experienced the … Continue reading
