New Disqus Comments plugin
In a nutshell I want people to be able to leave comments without me having to "approve" them - they appear immediately. But I also want to keep out spam. The anti-spam module for some reason was marking all comments - including my own - as spam. I have since added the Disqus plugin which hopefully will allow anyone with a free Disqus account to be able to leave comments that appear immediately. So far it appears to be working nicely.-

Yangling China (or) China 2010 day 8(?)
Modified from an email sent to folks back in the States. Shall I describe what I am doing right now? Yeah sure. Why not? Sweating profusely with my feet in a self-heating foot bath set for 50 minutes – the … Continue reading

The left divines the soul of the peaceful but not the truly violent
For some reason I have not been terribly interested in commenting on the curious resurgence of terrorist activity within the United States over the past oh 16 months or so. Even though the way politicians journalists and commentators have reacted … Continue reading

Anyone else getting propaganda emails?
Some of you may remember the Ellie Light episode. More than seventy newspapers across the country all accepted and published the exact same letter-to-the-editor defending President Obama. For the last year or so I have been receiving about once per … Continue reading

Reverence and leadership (or) Can irreverence demand its opposite?
What is leadership? It is not simply getting people to do what you want. Tyrants and dictators get people to do what they want. But they are not leaders. Woodruff argues persuasively that reverence is a virtue especially important for … Continue reading

Is Christianity about faith or *reverence*?
Generally, faith-based religion defends the goodness of the divine, while religion that is centered on reverence is not afraid to face the idea that the divine may seem evil in human terms. (Paul Woodruff, Reverence, 69) That parenthetical comment sure … Continue reading

“V” (2009) and virtue versus(?) morality ethics
The new “V” series totally rocks. In a recent episode Father Jack, Erica, and Hobbes have a prisoner – a human ex-soldier who works for the “V” and recently shot and killed a human supporter of the Fifth Column. They … Continue reading

REVIEW – “Armida” by Gioachino Rossini
The fanciful story of the sorceress who enthralls men in her island prison of sensual delights. That is pretty much all I knew about the opera “Armida” by Gioachino Rossini. Sounds like fun! Echoes of The Tempest by William Shakespeare … Continue reading

“I am not my sin” – The finest podcast I have ever heard?
Funny how everything works together. I was mildly annoyed when 3 teenagers who attend Church of the Nations said they needed me to take them home in the church bus – which had left 10 minutes earlier. Sigh. Which meant … Continue reading
