New Disqus Comments plugin
In a nutshell I want people to be able to leave comments without me having to "approve" them - they appear immediately. But I also want to keep out spam. The anti-spam module for some reason was marking all comments - including my own - as spam. I have since added the Disqus plugin which hopefully will allow anyone with a free Disqus account to be able to leave comments that appear immediately. So far it appears to be working nicely.-

The politics of salvation (or) "You are not merely wrong but evil"
A post about overheated rhetoric against “conservatives”. Link to a new post at Gay Patriot about “Why Do Some on Left Demonize Dissent”? A comment to that post by the author of the exceptional essay “Hayekian ignorance as cognitive affront” … Continue reading

Not feeling the warm liberal fuzziness (or) "Bleep you and die Senator Lieberman!"
This may cross a line. There is a man I love and respect – whom I regard as a better man/husband/father/minister than I am – whose social-political views are often very different from mine. We are “friends” on Facebook. He … Continue reading

President Obama's great(est) speech in Oslo
Listening to significant portions of his Nobel Peace Prize speech on NPR – last night? this morning? – I thought: Wow. Give the man credit for saying what needed to be said when it mattered. Was it perfect? Of course … Continue reading
Corporal punishment as "intrinsically sinful" (or) How ancient church uses Web 2.0 brilliantly
NPR and Ancient Faith Radio are what I listen to 90% of the time. Ancient Faith Radio is brilliant. Funny how the “ancient church” – the Orthodox church(es) – perhaps best exemplify how to use Web 2.0 and modern media. … Continue reading

Unwashed angels in the passenger seat of my car (or) The challenge of strangers who ask for help
During the last few weeks I have emptied my wallet 3 times for strangers who ask for help. Last month getting ready for a Church of the Nations planning meeting in the chapel. Raining hard outside. Bible Study Fellowship is … Continue reading

Why I removed a 2 year old post from this site (or) Pressured into censoring myself
Well well well. Two years ago – read that again – I attended a youth rally in Baton Rouge sponsored by our local Baptist association. During that youth rally someone came on stage and promoted a Christian rally/youth event which … Continue reading

An Obama cabinet that does not reflect America (or) How can they fix what they do not know?
Yeah yeah – should be posting more about theology and the Christian life. But this sure got my attention. How often do we hear that our leaders should reflect the American population? Why do we need an Hispanic Supreme Court … Continue reading
Charles Krauthammer – yes healthcare reform but not *this* way
I have before addressed the contemptible lie that conservatives (and Republicans – the two overlap but are not always the same) are against healthcare reform because they support the “status quo”. Conservatives do support healthcare reform. We like the idea … Continue reading

"Avatar" and other movies that make you throw up(?)
I have my reasons for not liking James Cameron. But the concept of and trailers for the new “Avatar” movie did get my interest. However came across an early anonymous review (caveat lector – how reliable is this?) which included … Continue reading

Society for Biblical Literature meeting – day 3
Been strange but good this year. Enjoyed the time with my friend Chris Brady and chance to meet some of his friends and colleagues and fellow bibliobloggers. Lunch at Bacco’s was excellent and only $15. Dinner at Ralph and Kacoo’s … Continue reading
