Comment Moderation
I want people to be able to post comments that appear immediately without having to be approved. But I also want to keep out spam and the anti-spam features interfere with the comment system. For some reason all comments - including mine! - go straight to a spam list. Then I must mark them as "not spam". Then they must be "approved". That is not how this website is supposed to work and I apologize for the inconvenience.-

Post-colonial Anglicanism – or Western Orthodoxy here we come
I am on record as one who argues for a more Orthodox approach to Anglicanism – or for Anglicanism as Western Orthodoxy. That if Anglicanism borrows a page or two or several from the Orthodox playbook – that is (re?)envisions … Continue reading

Akma and that pesky Golden Rule
The blogger AKMA – ak(m?)a the New Testament scholar Andrew Adam – has long been someone that I respect and admire even when I disagree with views. He is a delightful example of that person who cares about how one … Continue reading

How the Episcopal House of Bishops breaks its own rules – legally
Episcopal Bishop Bob Duncan of Pittsburgh was (supposedly) deposed at the House of Bishops meeting in Salt Lake City. Nearly any disinterested and/or clear-thinking person recognizes that Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts-Schori has run roughshod over the canons in what has … Continue reading

Confusing disagreement with ignorance and antipathy (or) Pentheus rages some more
I suspect many conservative/orthodox Anglicans are grateful to God that Katharine Jefferts-Schori was elected Presiding Bishop. The Chuch of England not only has voted to allow women bishops (that was a foregone conclusion) but much more significantly showed a complete … Continue reading

Confusing disagreement with disobedience
I assume – with excellent cause – that Prof Malcolm Yarnell at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is vastly more intelligent than I am. Probably a more holy faithful and committed Christian. Certainly – this is not an opinion – better … Continue reading

Presiding Bishop responds to Gafcon (or) Pentheus rages
I can quote the whole thing because it is amazingly short: Much of the Anglican world must be lamenting the latest emission from GAFCON. Anglicanism has always been broader than some find comfortable. This statement does not represent the end … Continue reading

Gafcon and the New(?) Anglican Communion
Sigh. Something huge happened last week. Gafcon – which is not a very hot sexy or informative acronym for a conference of conservative/orthodox Anglican bishops and other luminaries in Jerusalem. Much was said. And they released a communique that some … Continue reading

Why we continue to converse with conservative Christians
That is a horrible title for this post – but it alliterates! What is weird is that among Southern Baptists I am a liberal heretic. Among Anglicans I am a rabid right wing conservative. It just depends which classroom I … Continue reading
Patriarchs, primacy, and the pope
About a year ago I was having a rather good lunch with some Episcopal clergy buds when the conversation turned to the relationship between Anglicanism and Orthodoxy. One of these fine priests mentioned how apparently Pope Benedict XVI without much … Continue reading

Misrepresenting History in order to Manipulate the Masses (or) Studies in Propoganda, Part II
I will not herein reproduce the brilliant analysis of the Anglican Curmudgeon. The Lambeth Conference is fast approaching – the every-ten-years gathering of Anglican bishops from all over the world in Great Britain. Many conservative Anglicans are – excuse me … Continue reading
