Comment Moderation
I want people to be able to post comments that appear immediately without having to be approved. But I also want to keep out spam and the anti-spam features interfere with the comment system. For some reason all comments - including mine! - go straight to a spam list. Then I must mark them as "not spam". Then they must be "approved". That is not how this website is supposed to work and I apologize for the inconvenience.-

I write like Stephen King (and a few others)
Thanks to my good friend Chris Brady who is dean of Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University. His recent post “I write like lots of folks (and reflections on biblical scholarship)” in which he runs a few samples of … Continue reading

“V” (2009) and virtue versus(?) morality ethics
The new “V” series totally rocks. In a recent episode Father Jack, Erica, and Hobbes have a prisoner – a human ex-soldier who works for the “V” and recently shot and killed a human supporter of the Fifth Column. They … Continue reading

I have been wanting to share some of these thoughts for at least a couple years. Wednesday night prayer meeting. Been looking at the post-resurrection stories. Luke 24 leading into Acts. Walk to Emmaus. Then the resurrected Christ appears to … Continue reading

And now something completely different – original Star Wars movies in 4 minutes
I thought this was just brilliant. It helps to know this is a remix of a rather good song “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z with Alicia Keys. Which itself incorporates an original song “Empire State of Mind” by only … Continue reading

What I almost said at Maundy Thursday service (or) Tolkien and Heilsgeschichte
Our excellent minister of music and senior adults asked me to begin our Maundy Thursday worship gathering last night with an “overview of the story of salvation”. The idea being to set the events of Holy Week in the context … Continue reading

REVIEW – “Stargate Universe”
My wife and I watched “Stargate SG-1″ religiously. Religiously?!? I sorta kinda got into “Stargate Atlantis” after a while. Now we have “Stargate Universe”. Great concept. And some friends said to check it out it’s pretty good. This weekend I … Continue reading

Chaim Potok and sermons
Was listening to NPR in car this morning (yeah yeah I know) and “Writer’s Almanac” with Garrison Keillor came on. It was more interesting than most days. Ah yes a poem about cleaning up after the dog. Guess who walks … Continue reading

REVIEW – "Moon" (2009)
What does it mean to be human? More specifically what does it mean to be a person? How do we find meaning and purpose in an apparently absurd universe? It boggles my mind that critics could rave about how “Moon” … Continue reading
