New Disqus Comments plugin
In a nutshell I want people to be able to leave comments without me having to "approve" them - they appear immediately. But I also want to keep out spam. The anti-spam module for some reason was marking all comments - including my own - as spam. I have since added the Disqus plugin which hopefully will allow anyone with a free Disqus account to be able to leave comments that appear immediately. So far it appears to be working nicely.-

Giving credit where due (or) It’s about ideas and governance!
It is with some reluctance I post anything relating to the recent shootings in Tucson Arizona. But will attempt to be as positive as possible. Let me try to get the negative out of the way first. Yes some very … Continue reading

Who leaves and who keeps the house? (or) When denominations undergo radical change
Was perusing Lectionary Homiletics for December as part of my weekly sermon preparation. Noticed how many contributions are from Ed McNulty. Wonder who that is? Do a search. Come across a website that might tell me more. Turns out to … Continue reading
The Lucy Fallacy (or) The mental contortions some employ to condemn Juan Williams along with millions of others
The Lucy Fallacy. In The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis the youngest Pevensie child finds her way into the magical world of Narnia through the back of an old wardrobe. After she returns to this … Continue reading

Smaller government and why entropy does not disprove evolutionary theory
Came across a Los Angeles Times article criticizing a Tea Party coloring book for kids. Fair enough. More interesting are the comments. Most take issue with the criticisms. Only a few take issue with the Tea Party movement and/or the … Continue reading

Why conservatism = racism does not hold up to minimal examination (or) Rational voice at the Washington Post
Yeah yeah not another politics post. But this was huge. Many others have made similar arguments. But not in the Washington Post. Kudos to the Washington Post – not normally a bastion of classical liberalism aka “conservatism”* – for publishing … Continue reading

How to refute Obama apologists with a single sentence
Not that it will make much difference but here goes. I would vote every single time for a classic liberal aka “conservative” who happens to be a black Muslim born in the Sudan running for president of the United States … Continue reading

Will young Americans truly turn toward liberal Christianity?
(ed – I almost did not publish this. Do not like to “pick an argument” with such a public figure and that is not my intent.) Normally I do not pay much attention to what American religion scholar Diana Butler … Continue reading
Failures of imagination and the racism charge redux
One of the things I appreciate about the blog Politics, Policy, Pathology and Hope Within The Black Community (how’s that for a blog title?) is how often he asks “why do we focus so much ire and attention on that … Continue reading
Reverence and leadership (or) Can irreverence demand its opposite?
What is leadership? It is not simply getting people to do what you want. Tyrants and dictators get people to do what they want. But they are not leaders. Woodruff argues persuasively that reverence is a virtue especially important for … Continue reading

Dennis Prager says what I’ve been saying for years (or) The left’s intellectual solipsism
Phew. Kudos to Dennis Prager for saying what I have been saying for years. Not that he got it from me at all. But that someone has expressed publicly and well something that has been on my mind for a … Continue reading
