New Disqus Comments plugin
In a nutshell I want people to be able to leave comments without me having to "approve" them - they appear immediately. But I also want to keep out spam. The anti-spam module for some reason was marking all comments - including my own - as spam. I have since added the Disqus plugin which hopefully will allow anyone with a free Disqus account to be able to leave comments that appear immediately. So far it appears to be working nicely.-

Irony – thy name is "Episcopal"
Frankly I have not paid much attention to this because I do not care an whole lot. The Rev. Alberto Cutié, the celebrity priest removed from his Miami Beach church after photos of him kissing and embracing a woman appeared … Continue reading

"Not the same God" – Gene Robinson backs into the truth
The uproar (among a vocal few) about President-elect Obama asking Pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration has been illuminating. On the one hand conservatives who complain that Warren is somehow “endorsing” what they view as Obama’s … Continue reading

Dog bites human, sun rises in east – and Presiding Bishop lies
Oh where to start? There is plenty with which to find fault in what Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts-Schori had to say to the National Press Club on December 16. Baby Blue characterizes it as: … an amazingly sophomoric speech (which … Continue reading

William Witt on how critical orthodoxy is a better response to theological revisionism
I recently perused a brief post by D. C. Toedt who maintains the Questioning Christian blog in which he explains how the Greek term kyrios used for Jesus does not necessarily imply that Jesus was somehow divine. I thought it … Continue reading

The Presiding Bishop is not entirely wrong about everything
Pentheus. Pharaoh. Oven Mitt. Balrog. These are some of the unflattering and not terribly respectful comparisons and epithets I have used to describe Katharine Jefferts-Schori the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. (Okay – not balrog. I love Tolkien too … Continue reading

Post-colonial Anglicanism – or Western Orthodoxy here we come
I am on record as one who argues for a more Orthodox approach to Anglicanism – or for Anglicanism as Western Orthodoxy. That if Anglicanism borrows a page or two or several from the Orthodox playbook – that is (re?)envisions … Continue reading

NPR's Terry Gross with Presiding Bishop Jefferts-Schori: The Great Interviewer fails
If I think National Public Radio is so liberal and biased why then do I listen to it almost exclusively? Good question. Usually I have an answer but not today. (Scratch that. The answer is that NPR provides so much … Continue reading

Akma and that pesky Golden Rule
The blogger AKMA – ak(m?)a the New Testament scholar Andrew Adam – has long been someone that I respect and admire even when I disagree with views. He is a delightful example of that person who cares about how one … Continue reading

Pentheus or Pharaoh? Is the Presiding Bishop ready for the Pesach?
I have by allusion compared Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts-Shori of the Episcopal Church to Pentheus in The Bacchae by Euripedes. (You all did catch that right?) Two weeks after Hurricane Gustav (which is how one tells time in South Louisiana … Continue reading

How the Episcopal House of Bishops breaks its own rules – legally
Episcopal Bishop Bob Duncan of Pittsburgh was (supposedly) deposed at the House of Bishops meeting in Salt Lake City. Nearly any disinterested and/or clear-thinking person recognizes that Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts-Schori has run roughshod over the canons in what has … Continue reading
