New Disqus Comments plugin
In a nutshell I want people to be able to leave comments without me having to "approve" them - they appear immediately. But I also want to keep out spam. The anti-spam module for some reason was marking all comments - including my own - as spam. I have since added the Disqus plugin which hopefully will allow anyone with a free Disqus account to be able to leave comments that appear immediately. So far it appears to be working nicely.-

Live the Trinity – into suspended animation?
I might have to take a page from the Red Stick Rant book and put this website into temporary(?) hibernation. The last 2 weeks have been working 10-12 hours/day which is fine. Hard work is part of congregational ministry. But … Continue reading

Smaller government and why entropy does not disprove evolutionary theory
Came across a Los Angeles Times article criticizing a Tea Party coloring book for kids. Fair enough. More interesting are the comments. Most take issue with the criticisms. Only a few take issue with the Tea Party movement and/or the … Continue reading

Science when it’s convenient (or) Afternoon tea
Jetlag plus allergies maybe even a cold. Ugh. Thanks gentle readers for your patience. Have hardly posted anything new since the end of May. I was genuinely grateful for the respite from American politics/news while in China. Although they do … Continue reading
NPR celebrates $20 gas and the forced hyper-urbanization of America
Somebody please explain to me why I listen to NPR. Friday afternoon listening to “Talk of the Nation: Science Friday” hosted by Ira Flatow. Talking with writer Chris Steiner author of $20 Per Gallon: How the Inevitable Price of Gasoline … Continue reading
The invisible tribe (or) the sinister minority
It hit me while watching the movie “Marley and Me” with my family. Owen Wilson is left-handed! I have noticed how quickly I notice left-handed people. Watching a movie. Watching a television show. Signing some forms at a store or … Continue reading

Charles Krauthammer – science unburdened by ethics
Yesterday I was listening to “Talk of the Nation: Science Friday” with Ira Flatow who interviewed two scientists to ask how they felt now that President Obama has lifted the ban on using federal funds for stem-cell research. Notice how … Continue reading
Why religion and science need not conflict
I have been slogging through The Mystical Theology of the Eastern Church by Vladimir Lossky (a little light reading – actually I barely understand a fraction of it) and in his chapter on “Created Beings” came across this interesting section: … Continue reading
Gary Graham – Choose *what*? (or) Abortion (il)logic
For four years I was a hardcore anti-abortion activist. There. Said it. Now you know. President of Cornell (University) Coalition for Life for 3 years. March for Life? Been there done that got separated from my group and searched the … Continue reading
Yes Virginia – there is a black hole at the center of our galaxy
Not everyone knows that for most of my life I have been an astronomy buff. Was given my first telescope around age 8(?). Built a telescope (six inch Newtonian) in eighth grade. Took daily observations primarily of the sun and … Continue reading
Really Bad (Non-)Arguments About Abortion
I despise talking about the abortion issue. Sick to death of it. Avoid it like the plague. (I was president of the Cornell Coalition for Life for three years. Know the issue. Know the arguments – most of them – … Continue reading
